crash, bang, EXPLODED, earth saved.....

I thought that this time round I would write about movies, those big things that seem to change our lives. From the ones I love, to the ones I hate. Let's start with what I feel is the greatest movie of all time. ‘Pan's Labyrinth’, a film that makes cinema speak to your brain and make it say HELL YEAH. It's the story of a little girl named Ofelia who is caught up in the post Spanish Civil war, during the Francoist period, and it mixes the real world with fantasy. Ofelia's mother is carrying the child of the head of a fascist army which is hunting the Spanish rebels. Once her and her mother are brought there they start to feel unease and Ofelia is not happy with her mothers new man. She wanders about the grounds and finds a mystic land where she finds out she is a princess of the underworld trapped on earth and the only way to prove if she is the princess is by passing three tasks. This movie is magical blend of fantasy and reality. Showing us the true beauty of fairy tale's and child-like ways of thinking. The characters are beautifully portrayed, especially the little girl, Ofelia, who leads you into her fantasy world, to which you are left wondering whether it is real or not. But it does not shy away from the brutality of war and freedom and helps to show us the ways of imagination and the idea of escapism. ‘Transformers’, a film based on the classic 1980's cartoons. Directed by Michael Bay, this film uses exploding cars, exploding robots and pretty much anything that can explode in order to tell you a poor story of some badly acted characters and how 'oh, look, Meg Fox is in it'. It's predictable from the moment it starts and the only feeling of joy I had was when it ended....but then I heard there are more...... ‘Oldboy’, when madness becomes reality in Park Chan-wook's non stop action puzzler, Oh Dae-su must find out why he was imprisoned for 15 years without reason after he is suddenly released only to have 5 days to find out why. This film boasts amazing cinematography, ground breaking fight scenes and a brain twisting plot. The fact that Oh Dae-su is played so well by Choi Min-sik makes it all the more a must-watch for any film lover. If the fact it’s in Korean puts you off then shut up and deal with it, you can read can't you! ‘Pearl Harbour’, an inaccurate account of explosions when the U.S.A. joined the rest of us in the Second World War. The acting from Ben Affleck is so wooden that at times you could be mistaken for watching an auction for a chair and table set. While the plot and story itself is so stiff and patriotic that the bucket you would be using to be sick into would be so full half way through you'd have to hope it comes out of your carpet. ‘Let the Right One In’, is a Swedish vampire film based on a book of the same name. You may have seen this without knowing as the remake 'Let me in' was released last year but I see no point as the original version is flawless. I'm guessing reading is too hard for some people. Anyway, the story is about a lonely little boy who is bullied at school but befriends his next door neighbour, a little girl, who just turns out to be a vampire. This film is not like the sparkly family fun of the twilight series. It shows a much darker tone to what I think is the true vampire image (if there is one). It reminds me a lot of the classics like 'Dracula' and 'Nosferatu' as well as new updates such as 'An interview with a vampire'. If you want to see a film that chills you to the bone, watch this NOW! 'Armageddon', crash, bang, EXPLODED, earth saved..... Tweet me: Pippy_Pipatron
