Sometimes a T.V needs telling off, especially if you were to look at most of the shows leaking out of the television like a streaming pile of poo from a dog whose just discovered Indian take-away. What happened to some of the great shows like West Wing, 24, Luther, Life on Mars or anything with Sir David Attenborough in it. Luckily some of these shows are out there but they are harder to find than an honest M.P!
First, let's start with some REALLY BAD T.V. Realty show's appeared at end of the 90's and seemed like this revolutionary idea where we could learn more about the human mind and how we behave in many different situations. But 10 years on this idea has fizzled out. Not so much has it dried out the realty T.V pool of ideas but its digging into the core of the earth and burning itself with every step.
Let's start with an old flame Big Brother (FIVE). After the 10 years on channel 4 adding more and more 'characters' over the years to the house. We were all glad to see it go and bow it;s head knowing that somewhere (the first few seasons) it may have been a useful and entertaining piece of T.V. But, it came back from the dead like an unwanted pet and this time on channel five. Adding more X-factor style shocked titles and gloomy looking twats that you wouldn't even open the door for if they were on fire and you really needed a piss.
Then theirs the whole array of programs where we follow the lives of people who do nothing and are meant to care when something bad happens like one of them hurts someone or they all burn in a house fire while tanning their useless 'human' bodies. I'm of course talking about show such as 'The only way is Essex' (ITV), 'Made in Chelsea' (E4) and "Georgie Shore' (MTV), which all follow around a group of plastic, pumped up tarts whose main dialogue revolves around mainly five words. I recommend trying The Only way Is Essex bingo, where you write down 10 words you think will be in the show and shout out bingo when you get a line. As they only speak around 8 different words a show it can take a while for newcomers using words like 'hello', 'pleasant' or 'thank you'.
Of course there are many other shocking reality shows and I could go on for an age talking about the X-factors and Strictly Come Dancing and such but its all the same old plop just with different fame seekers and each show gets lower brow and more rubbish. So instead lets talk about some good shows gracing our screens at the moment.
After being ranted at on and on by my friends I finally got round to watching the first season of The Walking Dead (FX) and I was not disappointed and just in time for season 2 which kick off with a bang. Not giving to much away it starts where it left off questioning the meaning of humanity and the elements that people go to for each other and to survive. If you've not seen it then get season one on DVD its worth a watch. It shows what a real zombie film could be with real heart and imagination added real life situations and squashing them together to absorb you into its world.
Another great show of course is Sir David Attenborough's 'Frozen Planet' on BBC 1. As with all of his shows it is full of beauty cinematography, unbelievable shot of animals and nature and the best voice over ever known to a documentary. If you are a fan of any of Attenborough's work then this will as all always fulfill your Attenborough needs. For those who have never seen any of his work get on this now it is pure joy and a real eye opener to the beautiful world around you. Makes you think that not everything in the world is unintellectual bag of dog poo. The only way is Attenborough.
